Lake Gaston Boating Safely Course
Joee Hoxter, Public Education Officer, USCGAUX Flotilla 93
The United States Coast
Guard Auxiliary offers classes to promote boating safety. The course
concentrates on offering general boating knowledge necessary to navigate our
beautiful lake. Some of the areas explored are boating laws, personal safety
equipment, safe boat handling, navigation, boating problems and many other
topics. The Auxiliary is especially interested in serving our younger population
that wish to operate a Personal Water Craft (PWC) or Jet Ski.
The US Coast Guard Schedule for the 2007
America's Boating Course will be:
Saturday, April 21, 2007
Saturday, May 19, 2007
Saturday, June 23, 2007
Saturday, July 21, 2007
Saturday, August 18, 2007
The cost will be $ 30.00 per
person.
The VA-NC law (as of Sept
2005) permits participants 14 years of age to 16 to operate a PWC with a
certificate from this class. All individuals over the age of 16 do not need a
certificate to operate boat. Most insurance companies honor the certificate
with a 10% reduction in the insurance rates. You obtain a certificate by
passing a test at the end of the class. It is a one day class from 9:00 AM to
5:00 PM. Participants must bring their own lunch as there is no eating facility
close by.
The class is held at the US
Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 93 Headquarters on River Road 100 yards from
route 46 ( south of route 46 ) in Henrico, NC. Registration must be submitted
in advance of the course. Questions and registration may be directed to the
Public Education Officer, Joee Hoxter at 434-636-4151 or PO Box 637, Bracey, VA
23919.
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary
Flotilla 93 will have an
Open House
on Saturday, May 12, 2007. This Open House
will be held from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is designed to inform the lake
community of the duties and responsibilities of the USCGA on Lake Gaston and our
inland waterways.
We are also looking for
interested persons to join with us in our endeavor to make our lake a safer
place for all to enjoy. We will have handouts, videos, and members of our
flotilla will be available to answer questions and provide a variety of
information for all ages. There will be more information and advertisement for
the media in the early spring. For more information, please contact the Public
Education Officer, Joee Hoxter at 434-636-4151.
